article: The colors of fish and their functions
Faced with the very large range of colors exhibited by the fish, it should be noted that this variety of colors has, in itself, an essential purpose in the lives of fish. Camouflage and disguise are the purpose of this large variety of designs to be found among the fish: blending with the environment and masking the fish's body is hidden from predators but also to its victims. Many reef fish are among the drawings of the body of the eye-spots, similar to the fake eyes. The eye of a fish is vulnerable and a target of primary importance for a predator, so a "false eye" upsets and confuses any attacker. Equally useful for fish are the colors of warning, which are designed to warn potential predators that it is not good to eat, or even poisonous. The fish that live on the bottom are completely invisible if you look down thanks to the ability of fish to blend into the environment in which they live. The fish can change their color as they can contract or expand the colored pigments which are found in special cells of their skin, the chromatophores. Some fish change color, in shades of night to those who take the day, with normal lighting. But also change color according to the state of mind: fear, excitement, and the struggles of the breeding season are all factors affecting the intensity of the colors and layout. The colors of the fish can be made more intense by an appropriate power supply containing hormones, or by using a special lighting with light rays rich in red and blue.
